No change in rate for third consecutive month
The Bank of England today dashed the hopes of families and businesses feeling the ill effects of the credit crunch for action to boost their strained finances and the economy by keeping rates unchanged at 5%.
Ignoring pleas for a new cut in interest rates to control the growing threat of Britain moving into recession, the Bank kept interest rates on hold for the third month in a row.
