Rate remains unchanged.

The monetary policy committe today decided to leave the Bank of England base rate unchanged at 5.75%.

On announcing their decision they stated "It is to soon to tell how far the disruption in financial markets will impair the availability of credit to companies and households".

This news will come as a relief to borrowers who feared a rate rise in the in the lead up to the christmas period.
